Get Healthier and Balance Your Hormones

Jan 18, 2018

Struggling with your health or hormones?

Or simply feeling like you could eat healthier?

But not sure how to do it in an easy and practical way?

I grew up with a junk food drawer in our kitchen. That means I had potato chips, candy and candy bars at my disposal 24/7.

I remember in junior high, I went through a 2-week period eating ice cream floats for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My parents cooked real food but they allowed me to eat all the junk I wanted because we were recent immigrants and they thought that eating junk was the American way.

I basically continued on the junk food diet until my mid-twenties when I found myself 20-plus-pounds overweight without enough energy to walk up the stairs without huffing or puffing.

Vanity took over. I got a subscription to Cooking Light and learned how to cook healthier at home. I stopped eating out and ordering take-out as much. I started saving money. It was a WIN/WIN all around.

I started exercising and lost the weight but it wasn’t until I started doing yoga and meditating that my relationship with my body really changed.

Since I meditated in the evenings after dinner, I started noticing that some evenings, I felt light, energetic and just plain old good in my body, while other evenings, I felt heavy, lethargic and gross. It didn’t take me long to connect how I was feeling with the food that I ate.

And that’s when I really started to change how I ate!

I completely shifted from a diet-based mentality to eating foods that felt good to my body while moving my body in ways it enjoyed. I have felt great ever since, maintained my fighting weight and have never, ever dieted.

And I never “deprive” myself. I eat dessert if I want it and even potato chips, occasionally. What I have discovered over the years is that as I have learned to listen to my body and give it the nutrition it craves, it very rarely wants junky dessert or salty processed foods. It does like good dark chocolate though.

I share this with you not to brag but because I firmly believe in the body’s wisdom to show us what it needs once we start giving it healthier options.

I’m also adamant that feeling good in your body is fundamental to feeling good in life, living your passion and purpose… you get the idea.
