Connecting to Your Inner World

Mar 13, 2018

I have some big news – I am teaming up with Musas, an amazing community of Latin women, to bring cutting edge resources and tools to help women make their lives works of art and be leaders in their families, communities and the world.  If you are a Spanish speaker, come check it out here.

I’m really excited about it because I have always been about creating community wherever I go and I love the idea of creating bridges between the deep feminine and spiritual knowledge that so many Latin women possess with the world class tools and resources I have gathered over the past 16 years as a coach and transformational teacher.

What does this mean to you?

You may just get an invite from me to come hang out in a beautiful house in Colombia where the jungle meets the Caribbean Sea to learn, laugh, cry and play with a group of women from around the globe as we hike in the jungle, swim in the sea, share deeply our wildest hopes and dreams for ourselves and the world and make plans to make them happen…

That’s one of my dreams.

One of the biggest lessons I learned on my journey is the power of communities, and especially of women’s communities, in coming together to help us heal our past, transform our present, and dream and envision our ideal future. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be where I am today, living a life that I love and that is authentically me, were it not for all of the wise women who taught me how to love myself, who held me while I cried, who helped me envision a future better than anything I ever imagined and who supported me and cheered me on in turning that future into reality.

I am so grateful to those wise women who held my hand on this journey and really honored and excited to give back and learn from women whose ancient wisdom runs deep.

Switching topics a bit, since I started coaching over 16 years ago, the thing I most hear from women who want to uncover their purpose and create their ideal lives is “I have no idea where to start”.

My answer to them is always the same, “Connect to yourself and your inner world. Find out who you are, what you want from life and what life wants from you.”

The answers to all of our questions are found inside of ourselves. They may be hidden behind self-doubt and years of refusing to listen to ourselves, our bodies and our intuition, but they are always there, just waiting for us to pay attention and finally listen to ourselves.

How do you connect with your inner world?

There are many ways but here are a few I have found to be most useful:

1. Journaling – Spending 20 minutes a day to write in your journal is a wonderful way to connect with what’s inside you. You can ask yourself a question, like “What will make me happy?” or “What do I need to change in my life?” and just start writing, without censoring, whatever comes to mind. Or you can write about your feelings or anything that you are concerned, sad, excited or happy about. The more often you write, the more your deepest inner self will start speaking to you.

2. Writing morning pages – This is like journaling but you do it first thing in the morning, when you are still in a semi-sleepy state and thus can access your subconscious more easily. The idea is to just sit down and write anything that comes to mind until you fill up three pages of paper. It doesn’t matter if you start out writing, “I am so sleepy and don’t feel like writing….” or “I am so angry at…”. The only thing that matters is to write whatever comes to mind honestly and without censoring yourself.

3. Meditation – Spending anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes (or longer) in silence, just focusing your attention on your breath, is actually one of the best ways I know to connect to what is going on deep inside you. Your mind will wander as you sit there and you will catch yourself lost in thought and not paying attention to your breath and that’s ok. It’s normal. Just gently return your attention to your breathing and start again. What will start happening after a few days or weeks of regularly meditating is that you will start noticing how most of your thoughts are repetitive. Like a song playing in your head over and over, and you will start to feel free to choose which thoughts you listen to and which thoughts you want to change.

Before starting to meditate, I also really like to ask myself a question, like “What do I most need to know right now?” or “What do I do about _____ situation?” It’s uncanny how often I get just the answer I need during my meditation session. It’s like my deepest self is speaking to me and the answer just feels so true and wise.

4. Pay attention to your body – whether you are aware of it or not, your body is always speaking to you. It is relaxed and pain free when all is good in your world and it clenches up or hurts and sends you signals when there is something you need to pay attention to. Our intuition often speaks to us through our bodies. Have you noticed how you feel so relaxed around certain people while others cause your body to tense up or you get that “funny feeling in your stomach”? Start paying attention. This is your body’s way of communicating with you. The more you listen to it, the more information it will send you.

So, my dear friends, I hope that you now feel inspired to take a few minutes each day to connect with your inner world and all the riches that you will find there!

I’m so happy to be on this journey with you!

With love and light,

Natalie
