Are Your Dreams Too Small?

Sep 1, 2020

“We dream without knowing we dream too small. I love how the Universe shows us that we should dream bigger,” a friend posted on my private Facebook group last week.

She put into words exactly what I’ve been thinking about since our flight back home from Colombia on a private jet last week.

I’m a person who is normally much more drawn to people and experiences than material things.

I lived for seven years in a small town in Colombia with very used, hand-me-down furniture. Its country style wasn’t my taste but I really enjoyed having old furniture that I didn’t have to worry about with three young kids in the house.

I have been driving a two-door beat up Chevy for years because it still runs. Why do I need a different car? Who cares if one of my teenagers is embarrassed when I drop her off in that car? I don’t care much what others think of my material status and this is a value that I want to pass on to my children. I’m cool with people who like fancy cars. It’s just not me.

I’m usually happier traveling to the jungle, living with indigenous tribes and learning about their holistic way of life than enjoying fancy dinners and other pleasures of urban life.

Yet something fundamentally shifted in me last week when I experienced the unparalleled luxury of private jet travel.

It was luxury in every sense of the word.

Several days before our flight, we were asked by the woman who worked for the aviation company what we wanted to eat during the flight. When we asked what our options were, she replied, “Whatever you want to eat or drink, we will get you.” We settled on healthy vegan and vegetarian options.

We drove our rental car up to the tarmac, feet away from the airplane.

Somebody else returned our rental car for us.

We were offered cappuccinos and chai as the pilot checked our passports and we filled out some COVID-related health forms.

Within 5 minutes of arriving to the airstrip, we boarded the plane.

Once on board, we found comfortable leather seats, several “rooms” giving my husband and I a much-needed break from the kids, couches to lay on, snacks galore, a proper dining area for our meals (which were prepared fresh by our private flight attendant in the plane kitchen).

The airplane bathroom was nicer than my bathroom at home and stocked with every amenity you can think of from manicure kits to aloe-vera foot moisturizing socks to face creams and medicines.

As I sat in my comfortable reclining leather seat, reading a magazine and sipping an almond-milk cappuccino while the mountainous sea of every imaginable color green that is Colombia appeared before my eyes, several thoughts went through my head:

“I don’t want this flight to be over.”

“I could get used to this.”

“Wow! There are people who travel like this all the time.”

“I thought that I dreamed big but I actually dream too small. It never even occurred to me that we would get back to Colombia in a private jet. Where else am I not dreaming as big as I can? What could I manifest if I did?”

“What are my wildest dreams, outside of what I think is possible?” is a question that has stayed with me all week.

I get uncomfortable when I ask myself this question.

On the one hand, I’m a coach who has been teaching people for nearly 20 years how to live their passion and purpose and create extraordinary lives. Shouldn’t I dream HUGE?

On the other, I have already manifested a great family, friends, health, work that I love and helps others and a life of travel and adventure.

Who am I to want even more?

The old insecurities and self-limiting beliefs which I believed I had already transformed years ago started to come out again.

Who am I to ask for so much?

Who am I to think that I can travel on a private jet regularly?

Who am I to ask the Universe for so much material abundance while so many are starving and suffering?

Who am I to imagine myself living in a gorgeous house right on the beach and traveling the world in comfort to obscure destinations?

Who am I to imagine having a business so financially successful that it not only allows us to live grandly but also generates enough wealth to fulfill a lifelong dream of creating a hugely impactful project for underprivileged kids? (We have been volunteering, leading fundraisers and contributing financially to projects for underprivileged women and kids for years but the dream to impact millions of kids is the real vision.)

How can I even blog about this? The women in my community may think that I’m materialistic and shallow. Ahhh… it turns out that I do care what people think.

All of these self-doubts have been showing me where I still need to grow into the consciousness I need to have in order to receive what the Universe has in store for me.

I believe that by sending us the private jet, the Universe was showing me that I can dream way bigger than I have been and that I need to remove some more blocks that I have to receiving.

It’s a process…

I started my healing journey in my twenties with learning to set boundaries and removing the limiting beliefs I had to receiving love from people I was in relationship with.

I then moved to healing the blocks I had to receiving financial abundance while working twenty hour weeks and a life of travel and adventure in my late thirties/early 40’s.

And now I’m being given the opportunity to release the blocks I have to receiving the abundance that less-evolved parts of me tell me is “too much.”

I’m up for the challenge!

I’m also so excited to be on this journey with so many of you amazing women!
